Adrianna CO #1
This past Tuesday (the 29th), I observed my first ESL class. The section that I observed was Reading for group 3A. Similar to teachers that I have had in the past, Professor McHarek wrote the class itinerary for the day on the whiteboard. I think that this is helpful to both students and the professor so that they are aware of what to expect during class time. The class was then instructed to break up into groups and answer discussion questions based on the reading that they had for homework the night before. I respect the fact that during the entirety of class, Professor McHarek made an effort to walk around, observing and taking notes on the students discussions. Unlike the other two professors I observed, she also stayed after class to work one-on-one with a few of the students. The technique of working one-on-one with students after class is one that I will definitely implement during my future experience as an ESL teacher.
